Assurance to develop as tourist spot : Joint Secretary Nazmul Shamim visits ‘Jhopkhali Pakhir Char’ in Betagi

Betagi (Barguna) Correspondent

Joint Secretary of the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry, Khondaker Nazmul Huda Shamim, visited ‘Jhopkhali Pakhir Char’, which was recently developed at the mouth of the Bishkhali River in Betagi Upazila of Barguna, a coastal township of the country.

He visited ‘Jhopkhali Pakhir Char’ on Sunday afternoon to show its aesthetic beauty and attract tourists.

It is said that the chirping of birds and the greenery and the bird nests on the branches of the sycamore trees seem to move the minds of the tourists who are thirsty for travel. The locals believe that if they get government supervision and patronage, a tourist spot can be developed here.

Earlier, on January 16, the Betagi Upazila administration inaugurated the char by hoisting the name plate and the national flag, and in 2021, local media workers discovered the char that had emerged in the Jhopkhali estuary of the Bishkhali River with a trawler.

During the visit, Betagi UNO Md. Bashir Gazi, Upazila Engineer Sheikh Toufiq Aziz, Weekly Bishkhali Editor Abdus Salam Siddiqui, Betagi Press Club President Saidul Islam Montu, Betagi Citizen Forum President Lion Md. Shamim Sikder, Betagi Press Club General Secretary Mohaseen Khan and Deputy Assistant Engineer Md. Mehedi Hasan, and others were present.

After the visit, Joint Secretary Nazmul Huda Shamim, in his response, assured cooperation in developing the 'Jhopkhali Pakhir Char' into an attractive tourist destination.
