Again Science Lab blocked by students

Staff Correspondent

As per pre-announcement, students of seven colleges affiliated to Dhaka University on Wednesday gathered at Science Lab intersection in the capital demanding the formation of an independent university for their institutions.

At first, they staged protest inside Dhaka College campus. Later around 11am, they brought out a procession and took position at Science Lab, leading to severe traffic congestion in the surrounding areas.

The protesters said that the government is not accepting the demand of establishing an independent university with seven colleges." We want the government to accept our demand soon. The government forced us to take on street."

The colleges are Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls’ College, Government Bangla College, Government Titumir College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, and Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College.

They said that they will remain on the street until the commission was not announced by the government.

The blockade has led to severe traffic jams on Mirpur Road, with similar disruptions reported on Elephant Road, Green Road and nearby streets.

"We don't want people to suffer. If our demand is accepted soon, we will not block the road again."
