Awami League-backed UP chairmen have given went hiding in fear of arrest due to the changing political situation of the country in Jaldhaka hampering the general activities including public services of the Union Parishad.

UP member Obaidul Islam took over the responsibility of the panel chairman in Golna Union Parishad yesterday to continue the service activities of the Union Basi.

Union administrative officer Gulzar Rahman, UP members Tahidul Islam and Lebu Hossain and Amir of Union Jamaat Maulana Rafiqul Islam, anti-discrimination student leaders Tanjid Sumon and Mahmudul Hasan Limon spoke in the short discussion meeting held on this occasion. Later the newly appointed panel chairman was felicitated.

As per the section 33, 101 and 102 of the Local Government (Union Council) Act, 2009, the respective unions of the respective jurisdictions of the respective Unions, as per Section 33, 101 and 102 of the Local Government (Union Councils) Act, 2009, to manage the work of the chairmen in those unions and continue the public service activities as the A-League supported chairmen are absent from the Union Parishad due to fear of arrest. Financial and administrative powers are being delegated to the panel chairman of the council.

The order further states that in the absence of the panel chairman or in case of any complication, Sections 101 and 102 of the Act shall be applied by the Divisional Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner in his respective jurisdiction by assigning financial and administrative powers to his subordinate officers, such as UNO or Assistant Commissioner (Land).
