7 killed in clashes between students and law enforcers in Dhaka

At least, seven people have been killed and more than 1,500 injured during clashes between quota protestors and police along with Chhatra League and Jubo League across the country including the capital.

Of them, four were killed at Uttara-Azampur area in Dhaka.

Besides, one each was killed at Dhanmondi, Badda, Savar and Madaripur district.

Many of the injured suffered shotgun pellet injuries, said sources at different hospitals in Dhaka. The death toll may rise further as many of the injured are in critical condition.

According to the reports sent by our correspondents from different parts of the country, four students were killed during a clash between protesting students and RAB-police forces at Uttara-Azampur area at about 11:00am today (Thursday).

Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital's superintendent Mizanur Rahman said being injured in the clash between students and law enforcers, more than 50 people came at the hospital. Of them, four were pronounced dead. Policemen were also there among the injured.

Earlier, Uttara Adhunik Medical College Hospital sources said around 500 people took treatment at the hospital following the clash in Uttara area.

Aftab Nagar

A college student was killed in firing by police during clashes between quota protesters and law enforcers at Aftabnagar in the capital. The incident happened at about 2:00pm on Thursday. The dead student was identified as Sharif Hasan. He is a student of Imperial College in the capital. His father Zillur Rahman hails from Gopalganj district. They live in a rented house at Aftabnagar. The father of deceased Sharif Hasan confirmed it.

Dhaka Residential Model College's student killed in clash with police

A student of Dhaka Residential Model College was killed during a clash between quota protestors and police along with Jubo League men at Dhanmondi in the capital.

The deceased was identified as Farhan Faiyaaz, 17.

Osman Gani, assistant manager of Dhaka City Hospital at Mohammadpur, said Farhan was brought dead at the hospital.

Besides, around 200 people, mostly students, took treatment at the hospital. Many are still coming to the hospital with injuries, he said.

Witnesses said the clash ensued around 11:30am as police tried to disperse the student after they blocked the roads at Dhanmondi-27.

Police fired tear gas canisters to disperse the students, while Jubo League men, wielded with sticks, chased the student.

The protesters later took position at different allies and the clash spilled over to nearby areas.
