3 more people arrested over New Market clashes

Three more people have been arrested in connection with the recent clashes at New Market that claimed two lives.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained them from Shariatpur and Cox’s Bazar districts on Wednesday night.

Their identities of could not be known immediately. Among them, one was detained in connection with the deaths of two people while two others were for fuelling the clashes.

Further details will be disclosed at a press conference at the RAB Media Center at Karwan Bazar in the capital this morning.

Earlier, police arrested five students of Dhaka College over the incident.

The arrestees have been identified as Abdul Kaiyum, a commerce student, Palash and Irfan, both of the social science department, Foysal of the Bangla department and Junayed of the history department.

Two people were killed and more than 30 others, including journalists and students, were injured as the students of Dhaka College clashed with the traders of New Market at the Nilkhet intersection recently.

Police subsequently registered four cases against 1,400 people in connection with the clashes.
