Titas Gas has been continuing its drive to identify and eliminate illegal gas connections and misuse of gas.
As part of the regular operations, on Thursday, mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Md. Simon Sarkar conducted a special eviction drive against illegal gas lines in Karail Slum adjacent to Gulshan, under Metro Dhaka Sales Division-4.
Despite adverse weather conditions, Managing Director of Titas Gas, Engr. Shahnawaz Parvez, was present on-site, inspected the operation, provided immediate directives, and conducted public awareness campaigns against illegal gas usage in several residential areas.
During the drive, it was found that certain dishonest individuals in Karail Slum had been illegally tapping gas by using GI pipes, coil pipes, and plastic pipes, passing them under ponds and through manholes.
The drive was conducted in Road-34, Gulshan-2, a residential service line supplying illegal gas to Karail Slum through plastic pipes was disconnected, and 100 feet of plastic pipe was removed. fom Road-33, Gulshan-2, another illegal connection was found and 200 feet of plastic pipe was removed. from Road-32, Gulshan-2, an additional 70 feet of plastic pipe was removed after disconnecting the illegal line and from Road-23/C, Gulshan-2, 130 feet of plastic pipe was also removed following disconnection.
At Gulshan Lake View Hotel (Consumer No: 128-21621), a non-metered residential riser was found to be supplying gas commercially using two 25 cubic feet Star burners and two modified double stoves (21 cubic feet each), totaling 92 cubic feet of gas usage. The magistrate imposed a fine of Tk 60,000, disconnected the connection, and removed one regulator and 50 feet of plastic pipe.
Besides, at Gaosul Azam Mosque (adjacent to Gulshan-Mohakhali Road, Road No. 15), another illegal line was discovered supplying gas to Karail Slum via plastic pipe. Approximately 150 feet of pipe was removed during the operation.
