We don’t want to plunder power, we want to stand by people: Mufti Mizanur Rahman

Waliullah Emran, Barguna

Those who have been in power for so many years never tried to understand the suffering of the people of this two-seat constituency. We are people of the soil and people of this region, and we want to stand by them.

This is how Maulana Mufti Mizanur Rahman Qasemi, the Member of Parliament candidate for Barguna-2 (Patharghata-Bamna) constituency nominated by Islami Andolon Bangladesh, expressed his views during roadside meetings while traveling through different areas of Patharghata and Bamna upazilas on Thursday.

He delivered speeches at roadside gatherings in various places including Charduani, Kakchira, Douatola of Barguna-2 constituency, and Bamna upazila sadar.

Participating in his first public outreach at Patharghata Abu Sayeed Chattar, he said, “One group looted and fled after August 5, another trapped innocent people in lawsuits and extorted crores of taka. They are extorting money from shops using the names of heavyweight leaders. We are standing against all this. We will not allow extortion in Patharghata — we will guard our brothers and businessmen.”

In other roadside meetings, Mufti Mizan also said, “I have no personal interest. I am a disciple of the Pir of Char Monai. We do politics to establish people’s rightful rights. If you stand by us, Insha’Allah, with the victory of the Hand Fan (election symbol), no one will be able to stop the development of this region.”

Local leaders and activists of Islami Andolon Bangladesh, devout young men, businessmen, and representatives of the civil society were present at these events.
