UNO playing vital role in stopping pond digging on crop land in Durgapur

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sabrina Sharmin has taken a strong stand to prevent illegal pond digging in Durgapur, Rajshahi.
She has conducted several campaigns to protect the environment and agricultural land and stopped several illegal digging activities.
Recently, local farmers have been concerned about the increasing trend of digging ponds in cropland in different areas of the upazila. Based on their complaints, the UNO conducted a mobile court and took fines and precautionary measures against illegal diggers.
UNO Sabrina Sharmin said, illegal digging of ponds by destroying cropland is completely illegal. It not only harms the agricultural system, but also has a negative impact on the groundwater level. We will strictly prevent such activities.
Meanwhile, local farmers have expressed satisfaction with such activities of the administration. They feel that the strict action of the administration will protect the land and agricultural production will not be disrupted.
The upazila administration is determined to ensure the protection of farmers and agriculture by operating mobile courts against illegal pond digging and the sale of land for commercial purposes.
