A man named Md. Mozammel Hossain (35) has gone missing after a collision between a speedboat and a trawler in the Padma River near the Shimulia Ghat area of Louhajong in Munshiganj.

 The incident occurred just before Maghrib on Friday in the Bablatola area adjacent to Shimulia Ghat.

There were eight passengers on the speedboat at the time of the accident. Seven of them managed to climb onto the trawler after the collision, but Mozammel was swept away by the strong current of the Padma River and went missing.

Md. Al Amin, a friend of the missing person and a fellow passenger, said that four friends and relatives had come to Shimulia Ghat on Friday to eat hilsa fish. Before evening, they rented a speedboat to take a ride on the river and see the Padma Bridge. Along with the four of them, four more individuals were on board, making a total of eight passengers.

As the speedboat moved from Shimulia Ghat toward the Bablatola area, it collided with a trawler coming from the opposite direction. The speedboat was pulled under the trawler during the collision. While seven passengers managed to board the trawler, Mozammel Hossain was lost in the river's current.

Mozammel lived in the Shilpakala area of Dhaka. His father's name is Billal Hossain. All four friends, including Mozammel, are permanent residents of Habiganj. No information could be obtained about the other four passengers.

Mawa River Police In-Charge Md. Eliyal confirmed that a tourist went missing after falling into the river during the speedboat-trawler collision near Bablatola. A joint rescue operation involving the river police and fire service divers is underway.

Louhajong Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Nesar Uddin also confirmed that efforts to find the missing person are ongoing with the help of the fire service and naval police.
