Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left the country on the day of the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government in the face of student-people's movement and settled in the neighboring country of India.
Since then, cases have been filed one after another in the name of former Awami League ministers, parliamentarians and central and field leaders including Sheikh Hasina for genocide, attempted murder, various irregularities-corruption and other charges.
The case is also against the family members of the former prime minister. However, several former ministers-MPs and many field leaders have already been arrested, but Sheikh Hasina's relatives are out of touch.
In the last 15 and a half years, Sheikh Hasina's relatives served as government ministers, MPs, mayors and served as central members of the Awami League in important positions in organs and allied organizations.
Among them, four were ministers and equivalent. At least 10 people have become MPs. Three people have become mayors in two cities. One has become the head of the associate organization. They have taken all kinds of opportunities of the government legally and illegally. But still they are beyond the reach of the administration.
Despite the serious allegations, Sheikh Hasina's relatives have not been brought under the law. Sources of the current government's law and order forces say that the first case against Sheikh Hasina was filed in the Dhaka court on August 15 after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5. Since then, at least 222 cases have been registered against him. Out of these 188 cases have been charged with murder.
In these cases, apart from Sheikh Hasina, former ministers of her government, MPs, central and Trinamool leaders of Awami League, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) and people from various professions were accused. Already, some former ministers, MPs and party leaders of Sheikh Hasina's government have been arrested in some cases. Sheikh Hasina's relatives will also be brought under the law very soon. Although Sheikh Hasina left the country on August 5. Some of his relatives also left the country secretly. Many others are in hiding. But they must be brought under the law.
Meanwhile, questions have been raised in all circles, including political circles, that Sheikh Hasina left the country on August 5, this is known to all. On the same day, he and his younger sister Sheikh Rehana left the country in a military plane. Both of them were in Ganabhaban that day.
They are now staying in India. Sheikh Hasina's son Sajib Wazed Joy is staying in the United States. His daughter Saima Wazed is working in Delhi as the Regional Director of WHO. He was in Delhi when the government fell. Sheikh Rehana's daughter Tulip Siddique is a British minister, she lives in London. But where are the other members of the former prime minister's family and relatives?
According to several sources, Sheikh Rehana's son Redwan Siddique left the country before the fall of the government. Another member of the Bangabandhu family, Dhaka South City Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas left for Singapore two days before the fall of the government. Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas' elder brother Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash who is the chairman of Awami Jubo League. No one in the organization has information about whether he is in the country or abroad.
However, several leaders of the grassroots level of the Jubo League said that Fazle Shams Parash is not in the country. He went abroad sometime during the movement. However, there is no information about Parash's wife Advocate Nahid Sultana Juthi who is not in the country and has gone abroad with him. Awami League presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim's position is in the dark.
Sheikh Hasina's uncle Sheikh Kabir Hossain is in the country, sources close to her said. Sheikh Fazlul Karim's younger brother Sheikh Fazlur Rahman Maruf is already staying in Singapore. Hasanat Abdullah, a member of the Bangabandhu family, is a former MP elected from Barisal-1 (Gournadi and Agailjhara). His younger son Serniabat fled to India with Ashiq Abdullah. Hasanat is in India with her daughter Anjumanara Kanta Abdullah. Kanta married an Indian national and lived there.
Abul Hasanat Abdullah's younger son, Moin Abdullah, and his other son, Barishal City's former mayor, Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah, and Abul Hasanat Abdullah's younger brother, the city's current mayor, Serniabat Abul Khair Abdullah, have claimed to be hiding in the country. People have many complaints against Sadiq Abdullah. He was a personified terror to people. The corrupt, drug-addicted Sadiq Abdullah built the torture cell.
Former MP of Bagerhat-1 constituency Sheikh Helal left the country before the fall of the government. However, his son Sheikh Sarhan Naser, the former MP of Bagerhat-2 Constituency could not leave the country. He is hiding in the country. Sheikh Helal's brother former MP of Khulna-2 constituency Sheikh Salauddin Jewel was seen in Tungipara after the fall of the government. However, there is confusion about his latest location, is he in the country or has he gone abroad. Sheikh Hasina's other cousin's son and former Chief Whip Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury (Liton Chowdhury).
After August 5, there was no trace of him. where is he But those close to him say that he is in hiding. Among Bangabandhu's relatives, former MP Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury alias Nixon Chowdhury, who won the Faridpur-4 constituency independently, is also out of the picture. Can anyone say whether he is in the country or has gone abroad? However, several sources say that he is in hiding. Former president of Chhatra League and general secretary of Jatiya Party Sheikh Shahidul Islam is in Dhaka. No one knows where Sheikh Salim's wife Fatema Salim, Jubo League presidium member and former FBCCI president Sheikh Fazle Fahim, Sheikh Fazle Naeem, Sheikh Amina Sultana Sania are.
Dhaka University Peace and Conflict Studies Department Chairman Associate Professor Dr. Saber Ahmed Chowdhury said in the light of time, the current government is constantly arresting some beneficiary or former minister-MP and leaders of the Awami League government. It is not correct to say that Sheikh Hasina's relatives are not being arrested there. In fact, it is not clear whether they are hiding in the country or have secretly migrated abroad. We have already learned, from the army, that there are more than six hundred men in the cantonment. The army did not clarify who they are. Sheikh Hasina's relatives can stay there too. Also if someone is in hiding, arresting them is time consuming.
May be time is needed to find them. But it would not be correct to say that they will not or cannot be arrested. If Sheikh Hasina's relatives have committed any misdeeds from corruption, irregularities and government then they will not be spared. However, it is difficult to say specifically why they are not being arrested.
AIG (Media and PR) of Bangladesh Police Headquarters Inamul Haque Sagar said, Bangladesh Police is active to arrest the criminals and the accused in the case. Accused of various cases are being arrested all the time. Efforts by the police to arrest the accused in the case are ongoing and will continue.
