Six more die of dengue, 882 hospitalised in 24hrs

Six more deaths were reported from dengue in the past 24 hours till Sunday morning, raising the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 494 this year.

Among the recent fatalities, two occurred in Chattogram division, and one each in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Dhaka, Barishal, and Rajshahi divisions.

During the period, 882 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of them, 140 were admitted to hospitals under the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) while 104 under the DSCC.

As of now, 2,868 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals across the country.

Since 1 January, a total of 92,351 dengue cases have been reported.

Last year, dengue claimed the lives of 1,705 people, making it the deadliest year on record.

According to the DGHS, there were 3,21,179 cases and 3,18,749 recoveries in 2023.
