
NGO officer murder in N’ganj: Youth sentenced to life imprisonment

In a verdict delivered by a Narayanganj court, a young man named Md. Hannan (32) has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of Md. Sajedur Rahman, an NGO officer. The court also fined him 50 thousend taka with an additional year of rigorous imprisonment in case of non-payment.
The verdict was announced on Thursday by Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge Md. Abu Shamim Azad in the presence of the convict. Two other accused in the same case were acquitted.
Md. Hannan, the convict, is the son of Samsuddin from the Bardhi area of Sonargaon, Narayanganj. The victim, Md. Sajedur Rahman, was working as a Program Organizer at the Bardhi branch of Bureau Bangladesh, an NGO.
Public Prosecutor Advocate Abul Kalam Azad Zakir stated that the incident occurred when Sajedur Rahman went to Samsuddin’s house in the Mistripara area of Sonargaon to collect loan installments. An argument ensued between Sajedur and Hannan.
During the altercation, Hannan and his associates captured Sajedur, took him inside the house, and killed him by slitting his throat. Following the incident, the then-branch manager of Bureau Bangladesh filed a case at Sonargaon Police Station. After the trial, the court delivered its judgment.
Inspector Md. Kaiyum Khan of the court police confirmed the verdict. He mentioned that the murder case was filed on September 7, 2020, at Sonargaon Police Station. The court has sentenced one accused to life imprisonment while acquitting the other.
