After a long 15 years, the elections of the Mithapukur Upazila branch of Bangladesh Primary Teachers Association were held on
Saturday.

Voting was held at Mithapukur Government High School from 10 am to 4 pm. Voters cast their votes in a grand atmosphere on this day. Shahidul Islam Sadhan was elected as the president with 728 votes and Sajjadur Rahman Sajjad was elected as the general secretary with 611 votes.

It is learnt that 1,545 teachers from all primary schools in the upazila voted. The atmosphere of the voting was also remarkable, including the presiding officer election observer, following the government rules. Friendly behavior of candidates, voters and officials was seen in the polling field. The voting ended without any unpleasant incidents. A total of 12 candidates contested in this election for 5 posts, including 3 for the post of president and 3 for the post of general secretary.

Among them, Shahidul Islam Sadhan was elected as the president with 728 votes. His closest rival Delnur Hossain received 502 votes. Sajjadur Rahman Sajjad was elected as the general secretary with 611 votes. His closest rival Ruhul Amin received 419 votes. In addition, Mosha. Munsefa Akhter Banu was elected as the senior vice-president (women) with 699 votes, Saiful Islam Mandal (Muktar) was elected as the executive secretary with 805 votes, and Abu Sufian was elected as the planning secretary with 866 votes.

The voters who came to the polling station said that the Mithapukur Primary Teachers' Association election held after the July Revolution will be a milestone for the next parliamentary and local government elections. The way the election process was conducted here is undoubtedly commendable.

Mithapukur Primary Education Officer Mozzamel Haque Shah said that the orderly conduct of the Primary Teachers' Association election in Mithapukur Upazila is an example. The concerned certainly deserve praise. I hope the new leadership will contribute to the development of primary education.
