The Socialist Students' Front, Jagannath University (JnU) Unit staged a protest demanding the highest punishment for rapists in response to the deteriorating law and order situation across the country.
The protest was held on Sunday at 1:30 pm in Rafiq Bhaban of the university. Prior to the protest, a discussion session was organized on the topic "The Role of Women in Mass Uprisings" in observance of International Women’s Day.
During the protest, leaders of the Socialist Students' Front stated, "The brutal rape of 8-year-old Achiya in Magura, while visiting her sister's house, has sparked outrage across the nation. Students from various universities have already protested against this heinous crime.
Ivan Tahsiv, Convenor of the organization, said, "We are currently experiencing a terrifying situation. The country is plagued with murders, enforced disappearances, rapes, and other crimes. The interim government has failed to ensure the safety of ordinary citizens. The recent incident in Magura, where an 8-year-old child was raped, reflects the dire state of our society. Women are afraid to walk freely on the streets. We demand exemplary punishment for rapists in public."
Addressing the protest, Maruf Hasan, a student of the university, remarked, "The law and order situation has deteriorated to the point that even a small child is not safe.
