Jamaat demands list of martyrs, their immediate rehabilitation

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Central Executive Council Member Mohammed Selim Uddin urged the government to recognise the students who sacrificed their lives in the July-August mass uprising as the national hero.

Selim, also Dhaka City North unit Ameer of the religion-based political party demanded a complete list of those who were martyred and injured during the anti-government movement.

Speaking at a view-exchange meeting with the families of the victims, he underscored the need for immediate rehabilitation of the martyrs' families and treatment of those who sustained injuries during the movement.

The meeting, organized by KTV-24, was held at an auditorium in Dhaka, with KTV Chairman Sayed Masuk presiding over the session.

Major (retd) Muhammad Imran, Jamaat Dhaka City North unit’s media and publicity secretary Muhammad Ataur Rahman Sarker, Comrade Siddiqur Rahman, Mustafa Kamal, student leaders Anisur Rahman and Zubayer Siddique, were among others who spoke at the event.

Describing their sacrifice as incomparable, Selim Uddin said the students sacrificed their lives to build a discrimination and corruption-free Bangladesh.

He also accused the Awami League of engaging in repression against Jamaat leaders and activists and urged the government to hold them accountable for the acts of repression.

He also underscored the need for unity among all political parties to fulfil the vision of the student-people mass movement.
