Police have arrested identified drug dealer Jahanara Begum (48) with 1592 pieces of Yaba in Galachipa, Patuakhali. She was arrested from her house in Ward No. 4, East Majhagram, Chiknikandi Union, on Tuesday (February 11) at around 9 pm based on a secret tip-off. Police Inspector (Investigation) Md. Joynal Abedin gave details of the arrest and drug seizure at a press briefing on Wednesday morning.

It is learned that a special police team led by the OC of Galachipa Police Station, Ashadur Rahman, took part in the operation. SI Bellal Hossain, SI Hasibur Rahman Tushar, ASI Saidul Islam and ASI Humayun were present in the operation. During this time, 1592 packets of Yaba and 21 thousand taka in cash for drug sales were seized from Jahanara Begum's house. The market value of the seized Yaba is estimated at 4 lakh 77 thousand taka.

Police said that Jahanara Begum had been supplying drugs to Galachipa and surrounding areas for a long time. Her associate in this work was her son Wahid Pyada, who is a businessman. He also has several drug cases against him.

Police Inspector (Investigation) of Galachipa Police Station Md. Joynal Abedin said, "Our operation against drugs continues. Jahanara Begum was arrested with a large quantity of Yaba based on secret information. A case has been filed against her under Section 10(a) of Schedule 36(1) of the Narcotics Control Act."

Locals alleged that Jahanara Begum had been involved in drug trade for a long time, due to which the youth of the area were becoming addicted. Locals expressed relief at her arrest and demanded swift exemplary punishment.
