The High Court (HC) has ordered the authorities concerned to stop plying of battery-run auto-rickshaws on the streets across the capital Dhaka within three days.
The HC bench of Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Mahmudur Raji, came up with the order on Tuesday, following a preliminary hearing on a writ petition.
The operation of the battery-run auto-rickshaws must be halted and the order must be implemented within the next three days, read the order.
The HC has also issued a rule asking why the action should not be taken against those who will fail to comply with this order.
The presence of battery-run auto-rickshaws has significantly increased on the city streets since August 5, due to the relaxed enforcement of traffic laws.
City commuters are experiencing severe traffic jams on various roads, caused by the increased number of auto-rickshaws.
