Hasnat Abdullah in N'ganj : State apparatus preparing to rehabilitate AL
Staff Correspondent, Narayanganj
Hasnat Abdullah, Convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said that whether Awami politics can continue is no longer relevant.
Every leader and activist of the Awami League, from the ward level to the central leadership, must be brought under the law. He declared, "We will break the pens that write in favor of fascism. We will stand against the media that supports fascism. If you fail to understand the voice of the young generation, your fate will be the same as that of the Awami League."
He made these remarks on Tuesday at the Narayanganj Central Shaheed Minar during a public outreach and leaflet distribution event organized by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens' Committee to promote the "July Revolution Proclamation."
Earlier, Hasnat Abdullah, along with National Citizens' Committee spokesperson Samantha Sharmin and other leaders, arrived in Narayanganj to campaign for the July Revolution Proclamation. The campaign and public gathering began at 10 AM at the Narayanganj Central Shaheed Minar.
At 11:30 AM, a rally proceeded along Adamjee Road, followed by a public meeting and outreach at Siddhirganj Chittagong Road. Finally, their program concluded with another public meeting and outreach in Kanchpur, Sonargaon Upazila.
Hasnat Abdullah stated, "Our future Bangladesh will be shaped by the experiences of past politics and the perspectives of the young generation. If there is an intention to exclude the youth, we want to say that all active and anti-fascist political forces have come under the leadership of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement to overthrow this fascist regime."
He reiterated, "We have repeatedly said that the Awami League must be brought to justice first. Those talk show participants and intellectuals who are now vocal about Awami League's human rights concerns were the very ones who nurtured fascism for years. The state apparatus is taking various steps to rehabilitate the Awami League. We are a revolutionary force—we have nothing to lose. Whether the Awami League will be rehabilitated or not is no longer a decision to be made; the decision was already made on August 5."
He further said, "To those who want to rehabilitate Awami League's politics, let us be clear—the question is not whether Awami League will be rehabilitated, but that every one of them must be brought to justice. If anyone speaks of rehabilitation before justice, if anyone claims elections will not be participatory, we will consider them accomplices in the dark politics of Awami League."
"We had to shed blood on the streets. We had to overcome fear. The politics of vengeance has disillusioned generations of young people. The political structure has deprived us of our civil rights. It is from this frustration that we have built a fascism-free Bangladesh."
Hasnat Abdullah concluded, "Our ultimatum is until the 15th. The interim government has committed to proclaiming a declaration based on consensus among all political parties. However, it is unfortunate that we have not yet seen any concrete steps. We urge our advisors—if you represent us and see any obstacles, disclose them to the public. We will take to the streets again."
At the same event, National Citizens' Committee spokesperson Samantha Sharmin stated, "To bring Shamim Osman and all members of the Awami League to justice, we need a proclamation, and that is our revolutionary declaration."
