Harassment of law adviser in Switzerland unacceptable: Tarique

Staff Correspondent

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has strongly condemned the harassment of Interim Government's Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Prof Asif Nazrul at Geneva Airport in Switzerland.

In a statement floated for the media on Friday, Tarique Rahman said Asif Nazrul was subjected to rude behavior by Awami League men at Geneva Airport yesterday evening (local time) while he was travelling to France.

“Such uncivilised behavior towards a government adviser on foreign soil is not only unacceptable but also a severe insult to the dignity of the country and its people,” he said.

The heinous form of fascism is still raising its head in many places, both in the country and abroad, said the BNP leader.

Their unruly behavior towards the law adviser once again proves that they have not stood aside from the authoritarian politics indulged by their leader Sheikh Hasina, he said.

They do not believe in democracy, internationally recognised human rights, the rule of law, the independence of the judiciary and liberties of people, Tarique said.

“We must work together to bring all these Awami criminals to book from the international level for justice,” Tarique Rahman said.
