The foundation stone of the 'July Martyrs Memorial' has been laid in Satkhira on Sunday afternoon.
Satkhira DC Mostaq Ahmed laid the foundation stone of the memorial in front of the old Dak Bungalow in the Katia area of Satkhira town.
Also present at the event were Superintendent of Police Mohammad Monirul Islam, Principal of Satkhira Government College Prof Abul Hashem, Civil Surgeon Dr. Abdul Salam, Satkhira district Jamaat Amir Vice Principal Shahidul Islam Mukul, Convenor of Satkhira District Branch of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Arafat Hossain, spokesperson Mohini, and injured individuals and family members of martyrs of the July Movement.
It is learned that the decision to build the memorial in front of the old Dak Bungalow in the Katia area of Satkhira town was made by the district administration based on the proposal of Satkhira district Jamaat Secretary Maulana Azizur Rahman. On the occasion of officially starting the construction at the site today, he thanked all involved.
Meanwhile, the memorial will be constructed at a cost of 14 lakh taka, with a height of 18 feet and a width of 6 feet. The inspirational slogans chanted on the streets during the mass uprising of July 2024 will be engraved on the pillar. The construction is being funded jointly by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, and the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.
The memorial is scheduled to be officially inaugurated on August 5. During the event, prayers and supplications were offered for the forgiveness of the souls of the martyrs.
At that time, the DC said that the memorial is being built in remembrance of the brave martyrs of the July Movement. Similar memorials will be constructed in all 64 districts of the country. He expressed hope that on August 5, floral tributes would be paid at the memorial in honor of the July martyrs.
