In just a few months, various winter vegetables will start coming to the market. Farmers are spending a busy time growing these vegetables in different places of the upazila, especially in the river char areas.
Winter vegetable cultivation has already started in different places of Cumilla Brahmanpara. Winter vegetables produced in the Gomti river char areas meet the demand of the local market.
General buyers are also interested in buying these vegetables produced in their own areas. And farmers are financially prosperous by cultivating this.
A large part of the farmers in the Gomti Char earn their living by cultivating vegetables throughout the year.
It has been found that in the Char area of the Gomti River in Brahmanpara Malapara Union of Cumilla , they are cultivating various types of vegetables such as brinjal, radish, cauliflower, cabbage, spinach, red cabbage, data cabbage, coriander leaves, and poon cabbage. They are also cultivating multiple vegetables on the same land. Many have cultivated brinjal at the same time in the land of red cabbage. As the red cabbage is sold, the brinjal trees have also started yielding. They sell these vegetables to retail and wholesale buyers in the local market. Vegetables produced in this region are sold in various places including the neighboring Kangshanagar Market and Nimsa Raw Material Market.
These farmers on the banks of the Gomti have been relying solely on cultivation for a long time. They cultivate seasonal vegetables all year round.
According to the Brahmanpara Upazila Agriculture Office, vegetables are cultivated in vast areas around the Gomti River. Every year, the vegetables produced in this area are exported to other areas to meet local demand. In the Gomti River char area of Malapara, winter vegetables including cauliflower, cabbage, radish, coriander leaves, beetroot, beans, spinach, various varieties of brinjal, and red cabbage are cultivated well. Cultivation has already started.
When asked, local farmer A. Rob said, "We cultivate vegetables every year. Now we have planted brinjal in the land. Earlier, there was red cabbage, poi-shak. Cauliflower, cabbage, and radish are being cultivated."
Another farmer named Md. Babul said, "We cultivate vegetables all year round. We have cultivated cauliflower and brinjal in the land for the winter season. However, there are problems due to frequent rains." Cauliflower seeds are being destroyed. In this regard, Brahmanpara Upazila Agriculture Officer and Agriculturist Masud Rana said, the target for vegetables in the Kharip-2 season this year was 120 hectares. 127 hectares have been achieved.
The target for the upcoming Rabi season is 320 hectares. We hope to exceed the target. Advance vegetable cultivation has already started in Gomti Char of Malapara Union.
