DU clarifys VC's statement on DUCSU elections, cooperation sought

DU Correspondent

A  discussion meeting was held at TSC Auditorium on the occasion of Dhaka University Black Day on Saturday.

On the way out of the event, journalists asked the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, about the DUCSU elections. The Vice-Chancellor gave a clear statement on this issue but some media outlets distorted his statement. In order to clear the confusion in the public mind, the Vice-Chancellor's statement on this issue is reproduced in full:

Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan said, the DUCSU event is challenging in any way. We are constantly trying to create a good environment for everyone and move forward. We are constantly working. Last night, I sat with everyone including the Election Commission, senior management team, and the hall provost was also present. We are constantly working to solve the problems. We are trying to address the concerns that have come up one by one. A perfect environment is a relative issue. It is ongoing. We have been talking to everyone for nine to ten months and we have all taken to the field together. Problems are coming, we are trying to solve them. We are optimistic about the behavior of the student organizations.

Despite their many differences and disagreements, they are participating in DUCSU in a big way. Joy and enthusiasm have spread among the general students. This is our great strength. This is not a matter of the Dhaka University administration or any single group alone. As long as everyone holds my hand in this event, I will stay on the field. Where you let go of my hand, I will clearly call you and tell you that I am being tied up in this place. This is a national responsibility. Although this is a program of Dhaka University, the entire nation is looking at us.

This is our gratitude. This responsibility is not a personal responsibility. It is a collective responsibility. We have taken the field in view of the widespread interest and demands of the students. We will inform you about the initiatives we are taking to maintain a fairly good environment in the form of updates every three to four days. At this moment, we know that journalists need a lot of information. You will be informed regularly. We will work as the Election Commission guides us. We are now basically working under the Election Commission. They are being given maximum cooperation from the administration. You can ask them any kind of question. My words are clear, we have come this far by holding more than 70 meetings and discussions with all the stakeholders. As long as everyone is with me, this process will continue. When you let go, I will call everyone and let you know at what stage we are.

In this situation, the administration has requested everyone to cooperate in maintaining a healthy educational environment at the university.
