Don’t grant bail hastily to July genocide suspects, law adviser to judges

Law Adviser Asif Nazrul has urged the judges not to grant bail to the accused in the July genocide cases hastily and said that their immediate release could hinder the country’s judicial process.
“We are going through a challenging situation as the defeated fascist forces are spending lakhs of money to destabilise the country. So, grant bail with the utmost caution,” he said while addressing a programme at Rajarbagh Police Line in Dhaka on Tuesday.
“There is no room for you (judges) to relax,” he said while addressing a workshop on human rights, environmental concerns, and law enforcement in the country’s changing political landscape in Dhaka's Rajarbagh on Tuesday.
Claiming that police officers are working relentlessly to capture criminals involved in the July genocide cases, he, pointing finger at the judges, said, “It is the law, it is not something I have made up. There is no room for complacency in this regard.”
He noted that he has been hearing complaints from police for decades that they arrest criminals only for judges to release them. The issue has been going on for the last 20-30 years, he added.
He also called upon the police officers to write the First Information Report (FIR) strongly and properly to prevent the practice of granting bail hurriedly.
Claiming that state-sponsored anarchy took an acute turn in the last 15 years, he warned that the trial of each and every murder must be ensured in the country.
