The crime incidents across the country were significantly lower in 2024 compared to 2023, according to the latest official statistics available at the police headquarters.

According to the statistics, a total of 1,95,436 crime incidents took place in eight metropolitan cities and nine ranges of the country in 2023, while the figure was 1,72,005 in 2024, that is nearly 12 percent lower than the previous year.

According to the police headquarters, a total of 25,049 crime incidents, including murder, dacoity, robbery, women and child repression, kidnapping, police assault, burglary and theft took place in the Dhaka Metropolitan area in 2023, while the figure was 17,964 in the same area in 2024.

The number of crimes was in the Chattogram Metropolitan area was 5,643 in 2023 but the figure was 4659 in 2024.

The figure of such crime incidents in Rajshahi Metropolitan area was 2,525 in 2023 while the number was 2382 in 2024 and number in Barishal metropolitan areas was 1,744 in 2023 that was 1,545 in last year. The figure was 2038 in Sylhet Metropolitan area in 2,023 whereas it was 1,754 in 2024.

The crime incidents in Rangpur Metropolitan area were 1,350 in 2023, which were 1,215 in 2024. The figure was 2,696 in newly formed Gazipur Metropolitan area in 2023 while it was 2632 in 2024. The crime incidents in Khulna Metropolitan were slightly increased at that time as it was 1,988 in 2023 and 2,045 in 2024.

The recorded crime incidents in country's biggest Dhaka range were 30,694 in 2023, which were 27,198 in 2024. The number of crime incidents in Mymensingh range was 12,552 in 2023, which came down to 10,360 in 2024.

The figure in Chattogram range was 28,417 in 2023 and it was 25,440 in 2024. In Sylhet range, the figure was 8,150 in 2023 while it was 7,798 in 2024.

In Rajshahi range, the incidents of crime were 25,410 in 2023, which were 22,337 in 2024. The figure in Rangpur range was 18,060 in 2023 and it was 17,225 in 2024. The figure in country's only Railway range was 652, which was 643 in 2024.

The crime incidents in Barishal range was increased slightly in 2024 compared to the previous year as the figure was 9,039 in 2023, which was 9,724 in 2024.
