BNP demands implementation of Teesta Master Plan

BNP held a rally at Rajarhat upazila in the district today demanding implementation of Teesta Master Plan to ensure the sustainable and equitable use of water resources between Bangladesh and India.
The rally was organized at the Government Mir Ismail Hossain College ground with the slogan 'Save Teesta, Save the River' with the participation of a large number of people from Kurigram, Rajarhat, Ulipur and Chilmari upazilas.
Kurigram District BNP Convener Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa presided over the rally while Kurigram District BNP Senior Joint Convener and Educationist Shafiqul Islam Bebu and Kurigram District BNP Member Secretary Sohel Hosnain Kaikobad also spoke on the rally.
Speakers called for urgent implementation of the Teesta Master Plan in a scientific manner to protect the Teesta River.
As a common river, the Teesta Agreement must be made with India on the basis of fair share, they said.
They also demanded construction of reservoirs, establishment of the previous connection of the river with the branches and tributaries of the Teesta River and resumption of navigation to maintain the flow of water in the Teesta River round the year.
