BGB forces BSF to stop fence construction at Joypurhat border

BGB on Tuesday morning forced India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to stop the construction of a fence along the border with Bangladesh at Purba Uchna village in Joypurhat.
A flag meeting was expected between the two sides to resolve the issue, said Nayek Subedar Shajahan Sarkar, commander of the local BGB camp.
The incident marks the latest attempt by BGB to foil India’s illegal border fence construction activities as Bangladesh security personnel have put up a defiant border stance since the formation of an interim government in Dhaka.
At 8am Tuesday, BSF personnel began constructing a fence in the Indian side 30-50 yards away from the Purba Uchna village. As BGB went to resist the move, tensions erupted. Finally, the BSF personnel yielded and returned to their respective camps with the construction materials.
