Auto-rickshaws, cheques distributed by Social Service Depat among beggars in Gopalganj

Beggar rehabilitation activities have been started in Gopalganj district under the Beggar Rehabilitation and Alternative Employment Program of Social Service Department.
Deputy Director Md. Harun-or-Rashid distributed the items from in front of the District Social Services Office on Monday afternoon.
District Deputy Director Md. Harun-or-Rashid handed over battery-powered autorickshaws to two beggars of Gopalganj Municipality and checks to one to purchase goods for his shop.
Those who have been rehabilitated are - Nazir Molya of Bedgram area, Arena Begum of Layker Mor area. Earlier, they used to earn a living by begging. Now they are dreaming of earning a living with dignity after getting autorickshaws and shops. They are being rehabilitated through the Gopalganj District Social Services and City Social Services Offices.
The Deputy Director said that the beggar rehabilitation program will continue in Gopalganj district gradually, including every area of the district city.
Among others, District Assistant Director Md. Zulfiqar Ali, Assistant Director Md. Mizanur Rahman, City Social Service Officer Farhana Nasrin and many others were present at the time.
Beggar Nazim Molya said, begging from door to door is a difficult and humiliating job. Now it is much better to get an auto rickshaw. Now we will be able to earn a living and will never beg with self-respect.
Deputy Director of the District Social Service Department, Md. Harun-or-Rashid said, we have given a check of 01 lakh taka to two people in the city area today through the Social Service Department. Checks will be given to four more people in phases.
A total of 03 (three) lakh taka will be distributed this year. 03 lakh 75 thousand taka was distributed in the last 2023-24 financial year.
With this money, beggars will be rehabilitated through autorickshaws and shops. This program started today this year. They have submitted a pledge to us that they will not go back to begging. They will be monitored so that they cannot return to their old profession. Those who return to work in the profession they want to be rehabilitated will be rehabilitated in the same way.
