The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has earlier filed a case against many people for using government vehicles for personal purposes.
A former commissioner of the same ACC used to use government vehicles with drivers for the movement of his wife and children. According to ACC sources, he illegally appropriated the car from the agency three and a half years ago.
On Tuesday last, ACC Chairman Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah and Commissioner (Investigation) Md. Zahurul Haque and Commissioner (Investigation) and Achia Khatun have resigned. However, Zahurul Haque did not return the car until last Thursday. He wants to use the car with the driver for another month for family work.
ACC sources said that Zahurul Haque had a car allotted for his own use. Apart from this, in April 2021, he allocated another car with a driver for full-time use. His wife and son used to travel to office in that car.
The driver of the allotted car Saddam Hussein On Thursday said, 'I have been driving the car for three and a half years. Sir's wife and son go to the office in the car. Sir has said that he will keep it for another month.
A few responsible officials of the ACC said, without revealing their names, there is a shortage of vehicles in the ACC. Officers of the rank of Deputy Director also use shared cars. There, a commissioner has illegally allocated a car for personal use for about three and a half years. However, the ACC filed cases against various individuals for using government vehicles for personal purposes.
According to ACC sources, the vehicle was sought after Zahurul Haque resigned. Then he threatened the officers and said that the officers of the administration cadre do not cooperate with the judicial officers. Meanwhile, he verbally informed about using the car for one more month. The concerned officer of the ACC agreed to this.
According to sources, the ACC filed a case last year against two employees of the state-owned Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) for causing financial loss to the government by using their vehicles for personal purposes. But a top officer of ACC has committed the same crime.
Former commissioner Zahurul Haque's private secretary applied to ACC for allocation of cars with driver. It was said in that application that Zahurul Haque lives in a government bungalow in Dhanmondi. He wants allotment of an additional car with driver in his favour. He will pay the government fee for using the car. Driver's accommodation is provided at his residence.
Later a letter was issued from the ACC head office allotting the car. It is said there, as per the wish of Commissioner Zahurul Haque, driver Saddam Hossain and Dhaka Metro-G42-7630 were allowed to use the vehicle round the clock.
In this regard, ACC Head Office Deputy Director (Administration) Sameer Biswas said, according to the institutional structure, the officer will get a car for his own use. However, there is no opportunity to allocate cars for personal use.
However, when asked how the former commissioner Zahurul Haque allocated the car, Sameer Biswas said, "It is seen by the transport department." They can say about this.
The car was allotted by ACC Director Mohammad Abdul Awal. He did not pick up several calls to his personal mobile number.
