Physicians, who went on a strike demanding security, have suspended their movement, saying full medical services will be available at all public and private hospitals of the country from Wednesday.

Abdul Ahad, spokesperson for the protesting doctors, on Tuesday said, "As per our demands, the hospital administration has ensured the safety of the doctors. The culprits have been arrested. Therefore, we’ve decided to suspend our programmes. Patients will get full service at the hospitals from tomorrow (Wednesday)."

Earlier on Monday, he said medical services will be available at all public and private hospitals on a limited scale from Tuesday.

As per his announcement, they visited outdoor patients on a shortened schedule from 10:00am to 1:00pm on Tuesday.

The strike was announced on Sunday following several incidents of attacks at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Saturday.

In the first incident, a physician was assaulted over alleged negligence in treating Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) student Ahsanul Haque Dipto, who later succumbed to his injuries.

Following his death, a group of students of BUBT allegedly pushed a resident doctor out of the operation theatre and took him to the director's room by beating him. They also stormed the emergency department.

Doctors protested the incident demanding the arrest of perpetrators and assurance for their security.

Then, DMCH authorities and law enforcement agencies assured them of their safety and arrest of attackers – but two more incidents of attacks took place at the country’s iconic health facility.
