Dengue: 5 more die, 1034 hospitalised

Five more deaths were reported from dengue in the 24 hours till Wednesday morning, raising the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 427 this year.

Among the recent fatalities, one was reported in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) region, one in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) region, one in the Barishal Division (excluding the city areas) and two in the Khulna Division (outside the city areas).

During the period, 1,034 more patients were hospitalised with the viral fever, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of them, 187 dengue patients were admitted at hospitals located in Dhaka North City areas while 160 others were hospitalised in Dhaka South City Corporation areas.

A total of 83,154 dengue cases have been reported since 1 January 2024.

Last year, 1,705 people lost their lives due to dengue, making it the deadliest year on record.

The DGHS recorded 3,21,179 dengue cases and 3, 18,749 recoveries last year.
