A total of eight people were killed in a road accident in Baraigram on Wednesday.
The collision was heppened between a truck and a microbus in Natore's Baraigram upazila. The accident occurred at around 10 am on Wednesday in Tarmuj Pump area on Banpara-Hatikumrul highway.
Police and local people said, Jahidul Islam (64) his wife Shelly Begum (56), sisters Iti (40) and Anna (60), relatives Anjuman Ara (75), Anu Begum (50) died on the spot and Seema Khatun (47) and microbus driver Sahabuddin (45) died while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. All the deceased are close relatives of each other and inhabitants of Dharmadah village area under Daulatpur police station in Kushtia district.
Jahidul Islam from Daulatpur, Kushtia, was going to Sirajganj in a microbus with his closest relatives to see his sick daughter-in-law Nishi (45) who was staying in Sirajganj. On the other hand, a truck leaving from Dhaka was coming towards Bonpara.
At that time, when the microbus and the truck reached the Tarmuj Pump area of the upazila on the Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway, they collided head-on. At that time, the microbus twisted. As a result, 6 passengers in the microbus were killed on the spot. Bonpara Fire Service and Bonpara Highway Police rescued the dead and injured persons.
Later, two people were sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in serious condition. However, both of them also died. As a result, all 8 people in the microbus, including the driver, were killed.
OC of Bonpara Highway Police Station Md. Ismail Hossain said, since the relatives of the deceased in the accident did not have any complaints and in view of their application, the bodies were handed over to them without an autopsy. A case has been filed in this regard at the police station. The truck has been seized. But the truck driver is absconding.
