
5 dredgers seized during illegal sand extraction in joint operation in Madaripur

In a joint operation at Kathalbari in Madaripur, the Coast Guard has seized 5 dredgers while illegally extracting sand.
Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque confirmed the information in a press release on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the press release, based on a tip-off, a special operation was conducted on Monday (21 July) at 5 PM in the Padma River adjacent to Kathalbari Ghat under Shibchar Police Station of Madaripur, in coordination with Coast Guard Composite Station Padma, the Army, and the Police. During the operation, 5 dredgers and 1 sand extractor were detained while extracting sand illegally in the said area.
The seized items were handed over to Shibchar Naval Police for further legal action, and a mobile court led by an Executive Magistrate fined the detained person Tk 93,750 and released him after taking a written undertaking.
The Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to protect farmlands and homesteads of riverside people from sand extractors.
