At least 37 people were injured in a stray dog attack in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur.

The incident has caused extreme panic among the locals. Vaccines were not available at the local hospital.

The incident took place in Rampur, Trimoni, Peorite, Anjabo, Malwar Tek and Pirojpur villages of the upazila from 6 am to 7 am on Monday (March 3).

The injured are Juena and her daughter from Anjab village of the upazila, Manik Mia from the same village, Taslima, a seventh-grade student of Unity Model School and College, Selim and his wife from the same village. Matiur Rahman and Shahidullah, Kabir Hossain and his wife Shahnaz and son Limon from Rampur village of the upazila, and others are unidentified.

Kapasia Upazila Health Complex Emergency Department sources said that at least 37 people injured in dog bites were given first aid this morning. However, since they did not get the vaccine at this hospital, most of the patients have gone to the Mohakhali Infectious Diseases Hospital. One female patient had a bone removed.

Doctors said that due to the risk of infection and rabies from dog bites, everyone has been asked to take the necessary vaccines.

Local resident Kafil Member said, "We are afraid to go out on the road. The dogs come suddenly and bite, especially today in the early hours of the morning, my wife and child.

The victims alleged that the number of stray dogs in the area is increasing day by day, and these dogs are suddenly attacking pedestrians. Among the injured are some women and the elderly, including children.

Kapasia Upazila Health Complex Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Mamunur Rahman told Khola Kagoj that 6 out of 9 people were referred to Dhaka in serious condition due to the lack of vaccines in this hospital.

Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. AKM Atiqur Rahman said, dogs were vaccinated in the upazila three years ago. I will visit the scene today and take necessary action in this regard.
