A 12-year-old mentally challenged boy, Khairul Islam, has reunited with his family nearly two months after going missing from Faridpur.
His family, despite relentless efforts, could not find him until Monday afternoon, when Panchagarh Sadar Police Station facilitated his return to his father.
The boy was handed over to his family in the presence of local dignitaries, said Masud Rana, officer-in-charge of Panchagarh Sadar Police Station.
Khairul had left home on September 28, informing his family that he was heading to the Atroshi Darbar. However, after his departure, he disappeared without a trace.
Locals at the Boda Bus Stand in Panchagarh found him crying on October 2. A group of autorickshaw drivers rescued him and took him to the Mannapara Emdadul Ulum Karimia Keratul Quran Qaumi Madrasa in Panchagarh for shelter.
The madrasa’s caretaker, Jannatul Bari Manik, and Yusuf Ali, a social worker from Ahsania Mission Shishu Nagari, worked tirelessly to identify Khairul. They circulated his photograph on social media and contacted police stations in Faridpur. Their determined efforts eventually led to locating his family.
“I am deeply thankful to everyone who cared for my son during this time,” said Khairul’s father, Delwar Hossain.
"Our sole aim was to reunite the child with his family. Seeing him return to his family brings us immense joy,” said the madrasa caretaker Jannatul Bari Manik.
"We used social media and collaborated with local police to trace Khairul's family. Our persistent efforts paid off,” said Social worker Yusuf Ali.
