
Maulana Bhasani Bridge on Teesta to be inaugurated on Today

The 5- meter long 'Maulana Bhasani Bridge' built on the Teesta river on the Chilmari Upazila Sadar road of Panchpir Bazar-Kurigram in Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha will be inaugurated today ( Wednesday).
Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Advisor to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, will inaugurate the bridge at Sundarganj.
The total cost of the Bangladesh Government (GOB), the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) and the OPEC Fund for International Development (Ophid) financed the total cost of Tk 120 crore. The number of lanes of the bridge, which is 5 meters in length and 1.5 meters width, is 2 and the total span number is 5.
This is a pre-stressed concrete girder bridge.
The development of the communication system of Chilmari upazila of Kurigram district with the bridge through the bridge will create opportunities for the production of industrial and agricultural products and establish small and medium factories at short time and expense.
Besides, the establishment of advanced road network along with connection between both banks of the river will develop and expand the education system of the region. There will be short and long-term employment opportunities for the poor people in the area and will contribute to national economic growth, including local socio-economic status.
With the creation of tourism opportunities, a new transport corridor will be developed with other important places in the southern part of the capital Dhaka, including the Bhurungamari land port, will reduce the communication distance of Kurigram district to 3-5 km.
