Baraigram (Natore) Correspondent
People have formed a human chain on Monday in Baraigram upazila of Natore. They demanded removal of waterlogging in about one thousand acres of cropland of four beels. A few men dug ponds blocking government canals.
Hundreds of people participated an hour-long human chain on both sides of the feeder road in front of Upalshahar High School of the upazila. The affected farmers Lutfar Rahman, Abdur Razzak, Alam Hossain, Mohammad Ali, Shahidul Islam spoke there.
The speakers there said that there is a canal about three kilometers long for draining water from some beels in the Upalshahar area. But a few men of the village Upalshahar dug ponds in their own land at the mouth of the canal. As a result, the drainage of some beels in the Upalshahar, Binodshah, Laxmipur, Binodpur and Bishnapur areas has been blocked. This has caused waterlogging due to rain.
