A teacher named Shahidul Islam was injured when a roof beam collapsed during class at Belpukur Government Primary School in Bherbheri Union of Khansama upazila, Dinajpur. Fortunately, a major accident was narrowly avoided, and all students escaped without serious injuries.
The incident occurred on Wednesday (16 July) around 3:30 PM.
According to school sources, teacher Md. Shahidul Islam was conducting a lesson for fifth-grade students when a beam from the ceiling suddenly collapsed, striking his leg. The loud noise caused panic in the classroom, prompting students to run outside in fear. Luckily, no student sustained serious injuries.
The school's headmaster, Mir Abul Khair, stated that the school building is very old and has long been in a risky condition. Although the matter has been reported to the relevant authorities multiple times, no effective measures have been taken. Due to a lack of classrooms, classes are being held under hazardous conditions.
Upazila Primary Education Officer Humayun Kabir Talukder said, “This is a very unfortunate incident. A proposal has already been submitted for the demolition of the risky building and construction of a new one, but funds have not yet been allocated.
We will push the matter again.”UNO Kamruzzaman Sarker remarked, “This is an unexpected and concerning event. The matter is being taken seriously, and necessary steps will be taken promptly.”
