Unidentified body recovered from Madhumati River in Tungipara

Police recovered the body of an unidentified man from the Madhumati River in the Patgati launch terminal area of Tungipara upazila in Gopalganj on Sunday at 6:00 pm
Locals spotted the body floating in the river and informed Tungipara police station.
Upon receiving the news, a team from Tungipara police station and the Fire Service rushed to the spot and recovered the body. The deceased is estimated to be between 55 and 60 years old. However, his identity could not yet be confirmed.
Later, the body was sent to the morgue of Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital for an autopsy. Police said the exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem examination.
OC of Tungipara police station said efforts are underway to identify the body, and necessary legal steps will be taken. He added that since the man’s identity could not be confirmed locally, messages have been sent to intelligence agencies and nearby police stations.
At the time of recovery, Tungipara police, members of the Fire Service, intelligence agency representatives, and journalists from Tungipara Sangbadik Oikya Forum were present at the scene.
Locals reported that the body had been floating in the river for a long time, causing its features to become disfigured, making identification difficult. As a result, the incident has created mystery across the area.
