
National Fisheries Week inaugurated with various programs in Gopalganj

With the theme of “Building aviaries, filling the country with indigenous fish,” the National Fisheries Week-2025 has started in Gopalganj through various programs.
On Monday morning, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Kamruzzaman inaugurated the program by releasing fish fry in the Sadar Upazila Parishad pond.
Various awareness and motivational programs will continue in the district until August 24 on the occasion of National Fisheries Week. The district administration and the Fisheries Department have jointly taken initiatives to implement the program.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Admin and Finance) Golam Sarwar, District Fisheries Officer Bijan Kumar Nandi, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Md. Abdul Kader Sardar, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer M. Rakibul Hasan, Sadar Upazila Fisheries Officer Debla Chakraborty and other officials were also present at the inauguration ceremony.
After the release of the pona, a colorful road rally was held, which circled various roads of the district town with banners and festoons and ended at the Fisheries Department.
After the rally, a discussion meeting was organized in the hall room of the Gopalganj Fisheries and Training Center. The meeting was presided over by District Fisheries Officer Bijan Kumar Nandi and the chief guest was Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Kamruzzaman.
In his speech as the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Kamruzzaman said,
“The contribution of the fisheries sector to the national economy is very important. 60 percent of the country’s people are directly or indirectly involved in fish farming and harvesting. By conserving native fish species, expanding modern farming methods and properly managing water bodies, we will be able to meet our nutritional needs, as well as this sector will play a special role in eliminating unemployment. There is ample potential for fish production in Gopalganj, we all have to collectively utilize this potential.”
He also said, “The government is providing various plans and support to advance the fisheries sector. If the fisheries officers working at the field level support the farmers and if the fish farmers cultivate in a scientific manner, this sector will prosper even more.”
The moderator was Tanjila Akhter Nipa, Farm Manager, Fish Seed Production Farm, Gopalganj.
Debla Chakraborty, Sadar Upazila Fisheries Officer, delivered the welcome speech at the discussion.
Shimul Molla (Latifpur), fish farmer Siddharth Biswas (Rasunathpur), and Roz Islam (Char Manik Dah), a member of the Ashrayan project, spoke as part of the exchange of experiences of the fishermen.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Muhammad Sarwar Hossain spoke as a special guest.
After the discussion, prizes were distributed among the successful fish farmers of the district. The awardees are:
Ahsan Habib, father: Belayet Hossain (Kashiani), Ramesh Roy, father: Ramlal Roy (Tarakanda), Dilip Kumar Saha, father: Chittar Saha (Patgati).
The active presence of government officials, fish farmers, fishermen and concerned individuals was noticeable in this program of the Fisheries Week. According to the participants, such initiatives will play an important role in raising public awareness about the production and conservation of domestic fish.
