Raozan (Chattogram) Correspondent

Md. Manik Abdullah (45), a local Jubo Dal activist, was brutally shot and hacked to death by armed assailants while having dinner at a rented house in Raozan upazila of Chattogram.

The incident took place around 12:30am on Saturday night  at Bhandari Colony in Ward No. 3 of Bagoan Union. Police recovered his body from the scene shortly afterward.

The victim was the son of late Abdul Motaleb and had returned to Bangladesh in October last year after spending several years in the United Arab Emirates. He was a known follower of BNP’s central vice-chairman Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury. Manik leaves behind a 10-year-old son and a 5-year-old daughter.

According to local sources, Manik had gone to Hanif’s rented house in Bhandari Colony to have dinner when 8–10 masked men armed with shotguns and machetes ambushed him. He was shot three times—in the head, thigh, and leg—and then hacked with sharp weapons. The attackers fled the scene using motorcycles and auto-rickshaws.

Manik’s younger brother, Shakil Ahmed, stated that his brother had been attacked by the same group nearly three months ago.“They murdered my brother while he was eating. He had been persecuted even during the previous Awami League government and was forced to live abroad for years. Now, just months after returning home, he was killed by political rivals. I demand exemplary punishment for those responsible.”

A police team led by OC  Monirul Islam Bhuiyan of Raozan Police Station visited the crime scene.“We recovered two spent shotgun shells from the scene. The victim was shot in the head, thigh, and leg,” the OC confirmed.“The body has been sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy after preparing the inquest report.”

No arrests have been made so far, but a manhunt is underway to track down the perpetrators.
