A housewife named Khadija Akter Barsha (20) has allegedly committed suicide over family dispute in Matiranga, Khagrachhari.
Her body was recovered from her husband's bedroom in Ward No. 8, Bhuiyan Para, on Wednesday at 10 am.
The deceased Khadija Akter Barsha is the daughter of Israfil Bepari, a dry goods trader, and a resident of Shankardi village in Rajoir upazila of Madaripur district.
According to local sources, a year ago, Shahadat Hossain, son of Abu Zaher, a local resident of Bhuiyapara, and Khadija Akhter, daughter of Israfil, a resident of Rajair Upazila of Madaripur, got into a love relationship through Facebook communication. The two secretly got married without the knowledge of their families. When the marriage was announced, both families accepted them later. However, the family often had arguments over the issue of unemployment. Eyewitnesses said that the son hanged himself due to a family dispute with his husband and mother-in-law. Later, when the police informed the police station, the police quickly took the body from the scene to the police station.
Shahadat Hossain's sister Fairdous Ara Suraiya said, "I live in the next room. Every morning, he used to make breakfast." I went to call him at around 8:30 in the morning, not seeing him. When I knocked on the door, I saw him hanging from the fan. He suspected his brother. He said that he was having an affair with another girl. Moreover, since he was unemployed, there were frequent arguments between the husband and wife on various issues. The brother went to Comilla in anger. Meanwhile, he said that he used to get angry with his mother over trivial matters, so he would be upset.
Matiranga Police Station OC Taufiqul Islam Taufiq told The Country Today that upon receiving the news, the police quickly recovered the body from the scene. It has been sent to the Modern District Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. The police have also seized a mobile phone used by the deceased. Details will be revealed after the forensic test report.
