In Nachole, Chapainawabganj, services are being provided from government’s dilapidated buildings.
On visiting the site, such a scene was found. Although crores of taka have been spent on constructing various unnecessary infrastructures in this upazila, it seems no one pays attention to these buildings.
The roof of some office buildings has collapsed and parts have fallen off. Other buildings have large cracks in the walls. It’s like a death trap.
Nachole Upazila Social Services Officer Sohel Rana said, “Our office is a very busy office. Elderly and disabled people come here frequently. Yet, for a long time we have had to work under such conditions.”
Upazila Cooperative Officer Abdul Mannan Hossain Akand said, “While working in the office, plaster from the ceiling fell on the table. Also, there is no water supply in our building.”
Besides this, the Upazila Food Controller’s office, Women’s Affairs Officer’s office, Upazila Accounts Office, Upazila Primary Education Office, Ansar VDP office, Upazila Forest Department office, Information Office, and Upazila Agriculture Office godown buildings all have the same condition.
Officials, employees, and various service recipients fear that if these risky buildings are not demolished soon, a major accident could happen at any time.
Regarding this matter, UNO Kamal Hossain said, the Upazila Engineer has been informed about the issue. Immediate action will be taken.
