Youth dies in lightning strike in Netrakona

A young man named Rabbi Mia (18) died in a lightning strike in Satia village of Kaliara Gabragati union in Netrokona Sadar upazila at around 11 am on Wednesday.
The deceased Rabbi Mia is the son of Abdur Barek of Satia village.
According to local residents and police sources, Rabbi Mia took their cows to graze on the Someshwari river in the morning. When it started raining around 11 am, he went to bring the cows from the river bank when a sudden lightning strike struck him. Seeing the incident, the people around rescued Rabbi in a critical condition and took him to the Sidhli sub-health center in the neighboring Kalmakanda upazila. The deputy assistant community medical officer on duty there declared him dead.
When contacted, Netrokona Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Asma Binte Rafiq confirmed the incident and said that the upazila administration has immediately provided 20,000 taka to the family of the deceased for the burial and shrouding of the body of the person killed in the lightning strike.
