World Tourism Day observed in Gouripur

The World Tourism Day was observed in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh district in a befitting manner on Friday aiming to raise awareness among the people about the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic values.
Marking the day, Creative Association Historical Society and Library and also ACECC Association chalked out various programmes, including a human chain, rally and discussion meetings.
Around 11 am, a rally as well as human chain was held at Gouripur Govt College premises (which was established in the old palace of Krishnapur Zamidarbari in 1964) in the town of Gouripur upazila for emphasizing the need of upgrading Gouripur upazila into a tourism attraction.
There are more than 50 (fifty) archeological sites in Gouripur Upazila such as old mosques, old temples, 12 landlord houses (Rajbari), Sardarbari, the ruined earthen walls of two forts (Kella Bokainagar and Kella Tajpur), an old mint, ancient shrines, tomb of Nizamuddin Aulia (R:) in Kella Bokainagar, the great lady Birangana Sakhina's tomb, Historic Chimurani Dighi (ponds), East India Company pond. These archeological sites should be included in the preserved list of antiquities by the Department of Archeology of Bangladesh and an upazila-based museum is also always demanded to be set up for the new generation and tourists,.
Engr.Mohammad Ali Zinnah, Senior Vice President of the the Electoral Committee for Pen Award Affairs and former Superintendent ( Retd.) of Government Textile Vocational Institute, Mohammad Raihan Uddin Sarkar, General Secretary of Creative Association, Md. Samsul Islam, a social worker, Md. Saiful Alam, a journalist, Dilip Kumar Das(a journalist), Shahadat Shah, General Secretary of ACECC Youth Association , students, teachers and correspondents of different journals,among others, spoke highlighting the importance of the day
