World Philosophy Day celebrated at DU

World Philosophy Day was celebrated on Thursday at Dhaka University campus through various programmes.

Dhaka University Philosophy Department, Gobind Dev Philosophy Research Center and Moral Development Center jointly organized a day-long program on the occasion of the day. This year the theme of the day is “Philosophy for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future”.

On this occasion, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan was present as the chief guest.

The chairman of the Philosophy Department is Prof Dr. Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof. Dr. Mohammad Chiddikur Rahman Khan spoke as a special guest.

Prof Akh M Yunus of the department presented the keynote paper entitled "Philosophy of 2024 Uprising in Bangladesh: Islamic Perspective". Besides, associate professor of philosophy department. Kazi ASM Nurul Huda and Govt Titumir College Philosophy Department Professor Maleka Akhter Chowdhury spoke on the occasion. Professor Md. Nuruzzaman thanked.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan highlighted the importance of philosophy education in personal and collective life and said that we need to strengthen our moral philosophy and ideals through the practice of self-improvement and self-criticism. He said that various divisions are being created in the society now, the distance between people is increasing.

As a result of this, various types of disputes, conflicts, conflicts, anarchy and unrest are being created in the society. Such division is ultimately a defeat for humanity. He called on the philosophers and philosophy researchers to play an effective role in solving all the disputes and divisions of the society with the message of peace.

Earlier, on the occasion of the day, a rally was taken out from the foothills of invincible Bengal with the participation of departmental teachers and students. The rally ends at the Student-Teacher Center. Besides, the commemoratives published on the occasion of the day were unveiled.

It is noted that in 2002, UNESCO announced the celebration of World Philosophy Day. In 2005, UNESCO General Conference decided to observe World Philosophy Day on the third Thursday of November every year. As a result, World Philosophy Day is regularly observed in Dhaka University campus.
