World Handwashing Day celebrated with colourful events in Kalukhali

With the slogan “Be a Handwashing Hero,” World Handwashing Day was celebrated in Kalukhali Upazila of Rajbari District through a colourful rally, a handwashing demonstration, and a discussion meeting organized by the Upazila Administration and the Department of Public Health Engineering.
On the occasion, a colorful rally was brought out on the morning of October 28 from in front of the Kalukhali UNO office. The rally paraded through various roads and ended at the Upazila Parishad premises. Later, a handwashing demonstration and practical session were held at the Upazila Parishad premises for students from various educational institutions in the upazila.
Following the handwashing demonstration, a discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the Upazila Parishad. The meeting was chaired by UNO S. M. Rezaul Karim.
Ripon Chandra Shil, Upazila Public Health Engineering official, delivered the welcome address.
Among others, acting Upazila Primary Education Officer Muhammad Mizanur Rahman, Upazila Election Officer Khandaker Mohammad Ali, Upazila Youth Development Officer Md. Atahar Ali, and Upazila Cooperative Officer Abdul Jabbar spoke at the meeting.
In his speech, Ripon Chandra Shil said, “World Handwashing Day is not merely a formality; it is a commitment to health awareness. The path to good health begins with cleanliness.”
He added that regular handwashing using the correct technique could reduce the spread of infections among children and help ensure a healthy childhood.
Addressing the meeting, UNO S. M. Rezaul Karim said that cleanliness and health protection were of paramount importance. Handwashing was not merely a habit but one of the most effective ways to prevent diseases.
Referring to this year’s theme, he emphasized that everyone should be aware of the importance of handwashing and encourage others to do the same, thereby becoming a “Handwashing Hero.”
Teachers and students from various educational institutions, journalists, and officials and employees from different government departments of the upazila were present.
