Visually impaired people form human chain in Savar demanding protection of market from extortionists

More than four hundred visually impaired people have formed a human chain demanding to protect the NFDI Shopping Complex (Blind Market) under the National Organization for the Visually Impaired from the clutches of ruthless terrorists and allies of the fallen government and identified extortionists. The human chain was formed in front of the NFVI Shopping Complex under the National Organization for the Visually Impaired on the Savar-Birulia regional road on Saturday noon.
At that time, they kept raising various slogans demanding to free the extortionists, terrorists and illegal shop occupation and attracted the attention of the law enforcement agencies. The human chain was organized under the chairmanship of the acting chairman of the National Organization for the Visually Impaired, Mr. Madhav Chandra Sarkar.
The Secretary General of the National Organization for the Visually Impaired, Ayub Ali Howlader, spoke at the time. He said, “Work is being done for the welfare of the visually impaired throughout Bangladesh by renting the land of the NFVI Shopping Complex under the National Organization for the Visually Impaired.
. He alleged that during the fall of the government, a group of criminals led by Nazrul Islam alias Murgi, a close associate of Savar Upazila Awami League General Secretary and Upazila Chairman Manjurul Alam Rajib, a notorious terrorist, illegal market shop occupier and extortionist, led by Nazrul, including Helal alias Murgi Helal, Sohel alias Langra Sohel, Mahbubul Hasan Khorshed alias Murgi Khorshed, Anwar Hossain alias Fatka Anwar, Ripon alias Kailla Ripon, Belal Uddin Mana and their associates, including 20/25 unknown extortionists, took the responsible officers and employees of the NFVI Shopping Complex under the National Organization for the Visually Impaired hostage, seized shops in the market and carried out terrorist activities.

Ayub Ali Howlader said that when the Awami League government fell in the face of the student-public movement on August 5, the above-mentioned miscreants remained silent for a few days, but changed their cover and became the same terrorists as before. It has become more active in its activities and has adopted some new strategies. For example, by defaming the names of political party leaders, defaming the names of senior police officials and some journalists, extorting money as part of its criminal activities, threatening to implicate it in a student movement case, illegally pressuring the NFDI Shopping Complex to register shops, and threatening to kill the officials and employees of the National Organization for the Visually Impaired and its associate members, it has been displaying various types of intimidation. Even before this, during the time of the fallen government, this Nazrul Islam alias Murgi created obstacles in the development of Nazrul Market and mosque development activities and collected extortion.
He further said that 3 days before the holy Eid-ul-Azha, this terrorist gang led by Nazrul Islam alias Murgi Nazrul came to the office of the NFDI Shopping Complex under the National Organization for the Visually Impaired and demanded a ransom of 10 lakh taka from the Market In-charge Abdur Rahim. When he expressed his inability to pay the ransom, they started putting various kinds of pressure on him. On the fourth day after the holy Eid-ul-Azha, the criminal gang held an armed exercise in the market and threatened to shoot and kill the Market In-charge Abdur Rahim if he did not pay the ransom.
Later, on June 23 , 2025 at 11 pm, they found him on Birulia Road in front of the NFPI Shopping Complex and tried to kill the Market In-charge Abdur Rahim with weapons in a pre-planned manner. At that time, people from the surrounding area came forward to save him after hearing his cries. Due to their terrorist activities, the officers, employees and associate members of the National Organization for the Visually Impaired are suffering from insecurity. In this situation, I strongly demand that the terrorists be brought under the law with strict action and I seek the government's intervention to ensure smooth operation of the market
