Veteran politician Haider Akbar Khan Rono passes away

Veteran politician Haider Akbar Khan Rono passed away at a city hospital on early Saturday. He was 82.

The adviser of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) breathed his last at the capital's Health and Hope Hospital around 2:00am.

CPB central committee member Jolly Talukder confirmed the media about the demise of the leader.

Haider Akbar Khan Rono was receiving treatment from his residence in Dhanmondi. He was admitted to the hospital when he felt very ill last Monday evening.

Jolly Talukder said that the place and time of the final farewell ceremony of Haider Akbar Khan Rano will be announced later.

He was born on 31 August 1942 in Kolkata, India. His ancestral home is at Barashula village of Narail in Bangladesh.

Marxist theorist Haider Akbar Khan Rono was the general secretary of the East Pakistan Students Union. He is one of the organisers and leaders of the liberation war.

He received the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2021.
