
VAT incresse, harassment of businessmen : Rangpur Restaurant Owners Association holds meeting with Customs officials

To protest against the VAT increase and prevent harassment of businessmen, a meeting between the Restaurant Owners Association and officials of the Customs and VAT Department was held on Wednesday at Divisional Customs Office on Central Road in the city. Santosh Soren, Divisional Officer of the Customs and VAT Department, presided over the meeting.
The meeting was addressed by Bangladesh Restaurant Owners Association Rangpur District President and Bakery Owners Association Senior Vice President Nurul Haque Munna, General Secretary Shahid Akhter Shobon, Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice President Bhutto, Director Partha Bose, Acting President of Metropolitan Chamber Nurul Islam Patu, Directors Javed Hossain Jewel, Rashidul Islam Bulbul, General Secretary of Metropolitan Shop Owners Association Joynal Abedin, Organizing Secretary of Restaurant Owners Association Ibrahim Bepari and Abdul Khalek, among others.
At the meeting, protest and anger were expressed against the unreasonable VAT imposition and harassment on businessmen and the discourteous behavior of customs officials. At this time, it was called upon to take effective steps to fix VAT rates at a tolerable level and stop harassment of businessmen. In this regard, Divisional Customs Officer Santosh Soren assured to take the necessary active role.
