VAT Day and VAT Week Observed in Sylhet

On the occasion of “VAT Day”-2023 and 10-15 December “VAT Week-2023” at Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Sylhet organised a Seminar and Honoured giving ceremony at conference room of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Sylhet on Sunday.
Dr. Mainul Khan, Member (Implementation and IT), National Board of Revenue, Dhaka; attended the event as the chief guest.
Border Guard Bangladesh, Sector HQ, Sylhet Sector Commander Colonel GHM Salim Hasan, BGBM, PSC, G+ were present as special guests; Mr. Syed Zakir Hossain, Tax Commissioner of Tax Zone Sylhet; Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner of Police Mr. Md. Masud Rana; Mr. Tahmin Ahmed, President of the Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the seminar; Sylhet Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Director Mr. Md Huraira Iftar Hossain, Sylhet Women's Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mr. Swarnlata Roy; Prominent traders; Dignitaries, journalists, photographers and officials of all levels of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate were also present in the meeting as special guest.
In his speech, the Chief Guest congratulated all those who were awarded the highest Musak in Sylhet Division and invited them to participate in the development activities of the government as citizens of the country in the future. The National Board of Revenue has collected 20.06% of revenue in the fiscal year 2020-21 as a result of taking proper and practical steps in an effort to keep the wheels of the country's economy running despite the global Covid-19 pandemic and global situation; 12.66% in FY 2021-22; Achieved a growth of 12.44% in FY 2022-23.
In the President's speech, Commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Sylhet Mohammad Enamul Haque said that the government has been celebrating "VAT Day" on December 10 and "VAT Week" on December 10-15 every year since 2013 with the aim of increasing public awareness about the VAT system. He also mentioned that despite the global economic situation, the global corona situation and Sylhet flood situation in the last three years, Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Sylhet has realized the higher growth rate this time like last year.
As a result of the goodwill of businessmen and Musak officials of Sylhet, Musak collection has increased compared to previous years. In the transition from Digital Bangladesh to Smart Bangladesh, everyone has to come forward in VAT management through online VAT registration, online VAT return, online tax payment (B-Dhdhusbah), use of EFD/SDC at merchant and service levels and keeping accounts through VAT software.
Muhammad Rashedul Alam, Additional Commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Sylhet gave a welcome speech and Joint Commissioner Md. Jahangir Alam presented the key note.
In the Seminar,10individuals/organizations who paid the highest VAT in Sylhet Division were felicitated. The honored institutions are: 1. Khadim Ceramics Ltd., Sylhet-Manufacturing, 2. Interfold Trading, Sylhet-Business, 3. Panchbhai Restaurant, Sylhet - Service, 4. Healthy Choice Foods and Beverages Ltd., Moulvibazar - Production, 5. MB Cloth Store, Moulvibazar- Business, 6 Novem Limited, Moulvibazar- Seba, 7. Nettle Cartridge Paper Mills Ltd., Sunamganj- Production, 8. Pansi Restaurant, Sunamganj-Seba, 9. M/s A B Enterprise, Habiganj-Business, 10. Highway Inn Limited, Habiganj-Seba. Also, 19 institutions under the jurisdiction of Sylhet Commissionerate were specially honored for making significant contribution in payment of Musak at source.
It may be noted that December 10 "VAT Day" and December 10-15 "VAT Week" are being observed simultaneously across the country. The theme of this year's VAT week is - "I will pay my VAT, I will invoice you when I buy".
